Brazil’s phone code is the telephone country code that is used for phone communications when a call is placed from outside of the country.

Brazil’s country code is +55. The country code is necessary only when dialing a phone number to make a telephone call from another country. International callers who wish to dial a telephone number in Brazil should dial Brazil’s telephone country code (+55) before the national telephone number preceded by area code.

All national phone numbers in Brazil are ten digits long – aa-bbbb-bbbb with aa being the two digit area code. Follow these easy steps to dial a phone number in Brazil using the country code:

Step 1. Enter your country’s exit code on your phone. If you are calling from Europe please enter the 00 (or “+” sign if calling from a mobile device) or 011 if calling from the United States. American callers use the “011” exit code for all international call, including Brazil.

Step 2. Dial 55, Brazil’s country code.

Step 3. Then enter Brazil’s area code.

Step 4. Right after the area code, dial the eight digit national phone number you wish to call in Brazil.

Brazil’s mobile phone numbers are operated by the four largest local mobile phone companies – Vivo, Claro, TIM and Oi. Mobile phone codes in Brazil are similar to the landlines phone area codes, but followed by the 9 digit phone number. In addition, mobile phone numbers start with the digits 6, 7, 8 or 9.

When dialing a mobile phone number from outside of the country, first you need to dial the exit code (for example, “011” or “+” sign if calling from the United States), then Brazil’s country code “55”, plus area code, then enter 9 digit phone number.
