Costa Rica’s phone code is the telephone country code that is used for phone communications when a call is placed from outside of the country.

Costa Rica’s country code is +506. The country code is necessary only when dialing a phone number to make a telephone call from another country. International callers who wish to dial a telephone number in Costa Rica should dial Costa Rica’s telephone country code (+506) before the national telephone number.

All national phone numbers in Costa Rica are eight digits long and start with “2“–  2bbb bbbb. Follow these easy steps to dial a phone number in Costa Rica using the country code:

Step 1. Enter your country’s exit code on your phone. If you are calling from Europe please enter the 00 (or “+” sign if calling from a mobile device) or 011 if calling from the United States. American callers use the “011” exit code for all international call, including Costa Rica.

Step 2. Dial 506, Costa Rica’s country code.

Step 3. Right after the country code, dial the eight digit national phone number you wish to call in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica doesn’t have an area code. Local phone numbers that start with digit “2” are Costa Rican landlines.

If you wish to dial a phone number from the USA, you would have to dial first the exit code “011” (or “+” plus sign), then Costa Rica’s country code “506”, then the local phone number.

Costa Rica’s mobile phone numbers are operated by the three largest local mobile phone companies – Movistar, Claro and GrupoICE – Kölbi.

The mobile phone numbers in Costa Rica are eight digits long and start with 5, 6, 7 or 8. When dialing a mobile phone number from outside of the country, first you need to dial the exit code (for example, “011” or “+” sign if calling from the United States), then Costa Rica’s country code “506”, plus the 8 digit phone number.
