Germany’s phone code is the telephone country code that is used for phone communications when a call is placed from outside of the country.

Germany’s Country Code is +49

Germany’s country code is +49. The country code is necessary only when dialing a phone number to make a telephone call from another country. International callers who wish to dial a telephone number in Germany should dial Germany’s telephone country code (+49) before the national telephone number preceded by area code.

All national phone numbers in Germany are maximum eleven digits long – aaa-bbbb-bbbb : the area code (the length of which varies from two to five digits), followed by the local number (the length of which varies from six to eight digits).

Follow these easy steps to dial a phone number in Germany using the country code:

Step 1. Enter your country’s exit code on your phone. If you are calling from Europe please enter the 00 (or “+” sign if calling from a mobile device) or 011 if calling from the United States. American callers use the “011” exit code for all international call, including Germany.

Step 2. Dial 49, Germany’s country code.

Step 3. Then enter Germany’s area code. Don’t use the trunk code “0” when calling from outside Germany.

Step 4. Right after the area code, dial the national phone number you wish to call in Germany.

When calling from Europe: 00 49 aaa bbbb bbbb (or +49 aaa bbbb bbbb from a mobile device)
When calling from the United States: 011 49 aaa bbbb bbbb

Germany’s area codes are two to five digit long codes that are used for long-distance calling inside the country. Please do not enter the trunk “0” when calling overseas. Here are some Germany’s area codes:

If you wish to dial a phone number with these area codes from outside Germany, you would have to dial first the exit code, then Germany’s country code 49. 

For example, if you want to dial a phone number in Berlin, this would be an example of a phone number: +49 30 bbbb bbbb or 0049 30 bbbb bbbb, and 011 49 30 bbbb bbbb if calling from the United States.

Germany’s mobile phone numbers are operated by the three largest local mobile phone companies – Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica O2.

The mobile phone codes in Germany are 015, 016 and 017. When dialing a mobile phone number from outside of the country, first you need to dial the exit code (for example, “011” or “+” sign if calling from the United States), then Germany’s country code “49”, plus the ten or eleven digit phone number including mobile code “15”, “16” or “17”, but without the digit “0” (zero).

For example, enter 011 49 15 bbbb bbbb(b) or +49 15 bbbb bbbb(b) if calling from the United States.
