India’s phone code is the telephone country code that is used for phone communications when a call is placed from outside of the country.

India’s Country Code is +91

India’s country code is +91. The country code is necessary only when dialing a phone number to make a telephone call from another country. International callers who wish to dial a telephone number in India should dial India’s telephone country code (+91) before the national telephone number preceded by area code.

All phone numbers in India are ten digits long – (aaa)-bbb bbbb, with aaa being the area code. Follow these easy steps to dial a phone number in the United States using the country code:

Step 1. Enter your country’s exit code on your phone. If you are calling from Europe please enter the 00 (or “+” sign if calling from a mobile device) or 011 if calling from the United States. American callers use the “011” exit code for all international call, including India.

Step 2. Dial 91, India’s country code.

Step 3. Then enter India’s area code.

Step 4. Right after the area code, dial the national phone number you wish to call in India.

When calling from Europe: 00 91 aaa bbb bbbb (or +91 aaa bbb bbbb from a mobile device)
When calling from the United States: 011 91 aaa bbb bbbb

India’s area codes are two, three or four digit long codes that are used for long-distance calling inside the country. Here are some India’s area codes:

If you wish to dial a phone number with these area codes from outside India, you would have to dial first the exit code, then India’s country code 91. 

For example, if you want to dial a phone number in Ajara, this would be an example of a phone number: +91 2323 bbb bbb or 0091 2323 bbb bbb, and 011 91 2323 bbb bbb if calling from the United States.

Mobile phone codes in India are similar to the landlines phone area codes and follow the same format. The mobile phone numbers are operated by the four largest local mobile phone companies – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL.

Similar to dialing a landline phone number, mobile area codes are used for dialing inside the country. When dialing a mobile phone number from outside of the country, first you need to dial the exit code (for example, “00” or “+” sign if calling from Europe), then India’s country code “91“, then the national telephone number including area code.

For example, enter 011 91 aa bbbb bbbb or +91 aa bbbb bbbb if calling from the United States.
